What is this bot?
CressivePrivacyBot is an automated crawler operated by Cressive. It is part of our Cressive Privacy Compliance product, which helps enterprise organisations find and fix privacy compliance issues on their websites.
The bot scans websites to detect client-side tracking technologies, such as cookies, network requests, and tracking pixels. It checks whether these technologies fire before a user gives consent, or after a user rejects consent, in ways that may violate privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA.
Who does it scan?
CressivePrivacyBot scans two types of websites:
Client websites: Organisations that have signed a contract with Cressive and have explicitly given us permission to scan an agreed list of their URLs as part of our service.
Industry research: We also run periodic analyses of privacy compliance across industries, such as assessing the privacy compliance status of the pharmaceutical sector. In these cases, the bot visits publicly accessible websites to understand the broader compliance landscape.
What does it do?
The bot visits website pages and loads them in two consent states:
- Before a user interacts with a consent banner
- After a user rejects all cookies
It records which tracking technologies are active in each state. All data captured is publicly available information visible in the browser. The results are reported back through the Cressive platform to help website owners understand and fix their compliance issues.
Crawling behaviour
- The bot reads and respects
robots.txton all websites it visits. - For industry research, it only visits the homepage of each website.
- For client websites, it scans a specific list of URLs agreed on with the client.
- It does not attempt to access sensitive or restricted paths.
- It crawls at a maximum rate of 1 request per second.
- In practice, the crawl rate is typically much lower than this limit.
